The Restored House Targaryen
Though Richard claimed the legacy of the Storm and the Dragon, the Targaryen line did not end.
Prince Aegon Targaryen (son of Prince Rhaegar and Princess Elia Martell, nephew-in-law to Emperor Richard) was made Prince of Mantarys and Grand Governor of the Eastern Realm.
With his sister Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the Targaryen line endured in honor and title.
In time, they too sired heirs, ensuring that House Targaryen’s name and legacy continued, no longer as kings of Westeros, but as princes and governors of New Valyria.
The Extent of the Empire
At the height of Richard’s reign, the Empire of Westeros stretched from:
-
The Lands of Always Winter in the far north, through the Province of the North,
-
Across all of Westeros and the Stepstones,
-
To the Valyrian Peninsula and the restored Provinces of Essos,
-
And east to the western half of the Dothraki Sea.
The storm and the dragon ruled together, and the Empire knew unity unseen before or since.
