Remembrance of Storm and Fire
Imperial Edict of Remembrance
Issued in the Reign of Emperor Daemon I Baratheon, Second Emperor of Westeros
“To all provinces of the Empire, from the Lands of Always Winter to the shores of Valyria, from the Stormlands to the Dothraki plains, let these words be proclaimed and remembered:
Here stood Richard I Baratheon, the Storm Dragon, our first Emperor, who brought the realms of men into one banner. His sword burned in fire, his will was thunder, his vision eternal. He ended the reign of the dead and forged the age of the living.
Here stood Daenerys Targaryen, the Silver Queen, our first Empress, whose mercy tempered might, whose dragons guarded peace, and whose hand lifted the lowly as high as the lords. She was beloved of all peoples, and none doubted her as Mother of the Empire.
Together, they were storm and flame, stag and dragon, Westeros and Essos united.
By their bond, the Empire was forged.
By their legacy, the Empire endures.
By their memory, the Empire shall never fall.”
Thus do I, Daemon I Baratheon, Second Emperor of Westeros, command this edict to be set in stone, sung by bards, and taught to every child of the Empire. For their reign is not ended, but lives forever in us, their blood and their people.
So sworn upon the Golden Throne, in the Palace of Rygoros, in the year 1 of my reign.
The Statues of the Storm Dragon and the Silver Queen
Beneath the statue of Emperor Richard I Baratheon:
Here stands Richard the Storm Dragon,
First Emperor of Westeros, breaker of the dead,
Rider of Caesarion and Verman,
Uniter of realms from Winter’s Edge to the Dothraki Sea.
His reign was fire and storm,
And his name shall never fade.
Beneath the statue of Empress Daenerys Targaryen:
Here stands Daenerys, the Silver Queen,
Mother of Dragons, Mother of the Empire,
Whose mercy tempered might,
Whose flame brought peace to two continents.
Beloved in life, eternal in memory,
Her light endures in all the realm.
